This is the month in which Hazrat Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet of Islam Hazrat Mohammad Sahib, and his 72 companions (which included family members) were martyred in the battle of Karbala. This war took place in the year 680 (Islamic year 61 Hijri). In the battle of Karbala, there was a force of thousands of Yazidi soldiers on one side.Who believed in a government where every crime and atrocity was justified. On the other hand, under the patronage (leadership) of Hazrat Imam Hussain, there was a convoy of 72 people who were ready to sacrifice everything for the right. The war happened and history was made. This was the only war in the world in which the winner proved to be the loser. The religion of Islam emerged from the land of Arabia. Hazrat Mohammad Sahib was born in the Arabian city of Mecca in 570 AD. At the age of 40, you attained prophethood and became the last prophet. It is recorded in the date that on June 8, 632 AD, you departed from this world at the age of 62. This was the period when followers of Islam were spreading rapidly in the world. People were happily accepting the religion of Prophet Hazrat Mohammad Sahib.

The era of caliphate began

After your resignation, the period of Khilafat started. There would have been a Caliph who would represent the Muslims of the entire world. And this Caliph would have been the chosen leader of the Muslims as per the orders of Allah and His Messenger, Prophet Hazrat Mohammad Sahib. The Caliph was not elected to rule over the people.Rather, Muashare, who was moving towards Amno’s choice, was used as a guide in matters of Islamic law and practice. The first four Caliphs were formed among them, Hazrat Abu Bakr (Razi Anha), Hazrat Umar (Razi Anha), Hazrat Usman (Razi Anha) and Hazrat Ali (Razi Anha).

Caliph Hazrat Ali

One of these four Caliphs was Hazrat Ali, who was the maternal uncle and son-in-law of Prophet Hazrat Mohammad Sahib. Hazrat Ali was married to Hazrat Fatima, daughter of Prophet Mohammad. You had four children. These include two sons and two daughters. Among the sons were Hazrat Hasan and Hazrat Hussain. Whereas, among the daughters were Hazrate Zainab and Hazrate Umm Kulthum.Hazrat Ali had a good command of the Arabic language, apparently from learning the Quran. During his caliphate, he tried his best to unite the Muslims and establish peace, but during that period the rebellion also reached its peak.

Hazrat Ali and son were martyred

Hazrat Ali fought the rebels and destroyed them in the battle of Naharwan and initiated reforms. On the 20th of the month of Ramadan, 40 Hijri, the rebels treacherously martyred Hazrat Ali with a poisoned sword while he was going to offer namaz in the mosque. You were 63 years old at that time. After the martyrdom of Hazrat Ali, disunity began to arise in Islam. About 10 years after your death, in 50 Hijri, your elder son Hazrat Imam Hassan was also martyred by the rebels by poisoning him.

Caliph became Yazid Governor

After this, severe atrocities and oppression emerged in the Islamic world. Meanwhile, Yazid became the Caliph of Syria, far away from Mecca. As soon as he became Caliph, he started works which were completely against Islam. He started ruling the empire which was against the principles of Caliphate. Not only this, Yazid included alcohol, debauchery and every evil deed in his caliphate.

Hazrat Imam Hussain rejected

Yazid became Caliph but Hazrat Ali’s son Hazrat Imam Hussain refused to accept his caliphate. Due to your refusal, a large section of Islam retreated from accepting Yazid as Caliph. During this time, Yazid thought that if Hazrat Imam Hussain accepted him as his Caliph, then he could establish his dominance in the Islamic world. Regarding this, Yazid sent his proposal (which included accepting Yazid as Caliph and giving allegiance to him) to Hazrat Imam Hussain. Hazrat Imam Hussain rejected that proposal.
